A note from Paul Johnson, our Writer/Director

I have written the play directly from the National Consumer And Financial Literacy Framework prepared by the Ministerial Council On Education, Employment, Training And Youth Affairs, MCEETYA.

My understanding is that these learning outcomes are to be included in the state curriculum documents by 2008. We are therefore anticipating changes in the curriculum.

However, my reading of the comprehensive curriculum statements in the relevant areas of the NSW Board of Studies documents indicate that the above outcomes  are currently not yet specifically included. We have included most of those learning outcomes in the play.

I have worked for the NSW DET for much of my working life and I am familiar with how to design resources for use in the curricula. I have written over 30 TIE plays that have been approved by the Schools Performance Unit, many of which have been touring almost continuously for over 20 years.

Accordingly, my position is that to try to relate this play to current curriculum statements prepared in 2006 will be misleading and will not truly represent this resource. I am anticipating however that as the national statements will be new to teachers they will appreciate any resource that creatively presents the overview of financial literacy in an engaging, accessible and entertaining way. The teaching materials now in preparation will be of a similar nature.
